(nearly) Wordless Wednesday

Last week I showed the world a purple pepper. I posted on how it tasted here. This week I discovered Purple Carrots. And here they are to prove it..
Did you know that carrots were originally purple? (click on the picture to get it bigger to read the writing)

Edited to add: They taste just like normal carrots, just stain things a bit more when you cut them up! Oh, and they're definitely not sausages!

Check out some more Wordless Wednesdays here

  16. HA! I thought they were sausages, too. I've seen seeds for the purple carrots, and blood red ones, too. I've heard they're higher in beta caroteen, or something healthy like that. Nice to hear they taste the same. The color would make for interesting carot slaw, eh?

I've posted my Wordless Wednesday, too. Enjoy! ;)

  31. That is a cool veggie lesson! They could make a character on Veggie Tales out of the purple carrot....he would be a very misunderstood fellow and slightly morose. LOL

I guess it really makes sense when you consider that many root vegetables have purplish or reddish skins. Turnips, red potatoes, radishes...

Thanks for visiting my blog, by the way!

Wow! Purple carrots. Where on earth did you find them?

I thought at first that they were sausages, too. I guess partially because I've never seen carrots packaged like that.

That is really cool. I love purple and I love carrots. I had no clue they were actually purple. Really puts a new perspective on the years of being taught to color your carrots orange!

So, does it follow that if your baby eats too many purple carrots they will turn purple?

  43. Have you tried purple yams? There's a bakery in Vancouver that makes a cake with purple yams. It's good.
